Sparta is a village located in Kent County, Michigan, United States. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 4,159.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,159 people, 1,618 households, and 1,093 families residing in the village. The population density is 658.1/km² (1,703.9/mi²). There are 1,704 housing units at an average density of 269.6/km² (698.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.70% White, 0.63% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.88% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 3.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,618 households out of which 38.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.11.
