Southside Place is a city located in Harris County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,546.

Southside Place is completely surrounded by the cities of Houston and West University Place.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,546 people, 618 households, and 370 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,387.7/km² (6,270.9/mi²). There are 647 housing units at an average density of 999.2/km² (2,624.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 91.72% White, 1.03% African American, 0.00% Native American, 4.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.81% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 6.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 618 households out of which 40.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% are non-families. 38.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.44.

In the city the population is spread out with 33.2% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $81,267, and the median income for a family is $163,303. Males have a median income of $100,000 versus $48,654 for females. The per capita income for the city is $57,021. 5.3% of the population and 3.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.7% of those under the age of 18 and 12.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Education

The city is served by Houston Independent School District and the Houston Community College System.

Pupils who live in Southside Place north of Bellaire Boulevard are zoned to West University Elementary School in West University, and people who live in Southside Place south of Bellaire Boulevard are zoned to Mark Twain Elementary School in Houston. All Southside Place pupils are zoned to John Pershing Middle School in Houston. Pupils in Southside Place who are west of Stella Link and south of Bellaire Boulevard are zoned to Bellaire High School in Bellaire, while all other pupils in Southside Place are zoned to Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, also in Houston.
