South Paris is a census-designated place located in Oxford County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,237. It is the county seat of Oxford CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography
South Paris is located at 44°13'18" North, 70°30'53" West (44.221609, -70.514603)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.2 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.0 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.03% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,237 people, 972 households, and 536 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 222.6/km² (577.1/mi²). There are 1,052 housing units at an average density of 104.7/km² (271.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.32% White, 0.36% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.34% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 972 households out of which 25.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.8% are non-families. 36.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.84.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who are 65 years of age or older.
