London South Bank University (previously known as "South Bank University") is a inner-city university with a population of around 20,000 students and around 1,700 staff. 1/3 of the UK students are from the Southwark area, 1/3 from Greater London and remaining 1/3 from rest of UK. There are nearly 2,500 International Students from more than 90 different countries giving the University a very cosmpolitan and culturally rich feel. 56% of the student population are from ethnic minorities and a large proportion of the students are classified as mature (over 21 when the start their course). Its main campus is close to Waterloo, 5 mins from London's bustling arts zone - the South Bank.
In particular, the university has gained recognition for achievements in Health and Social Care, Business & Computing, Arts and Humanities and Engineering & Built Environment, making international contributions in such fields as Formal Notation and Object Oriented Software Engineering in Education. Recently the Univeristy shocked the established 'Old' Universities by coming 8th in the UK for graduate salaries - a fact it attributes to strongly vocational courses and good links with employers.
