The station was located on a short spur line from Acton Town. It had originally been opened for goods trains on 15 May 1899 but passenger services were only introduced on 13 June 1905, with the station located just to the west of the North London Railway's South Acton station. It initially had through services provided to Hounslow Barracks (now Hounslow West). However, the line was relatively little used and soon became a one-car shuttle service between Acton Town and South Acton, which was terminated on 28 February 1959.
Nothing now remains of South Acton's District Line station, although the North London Line station of the same name continues to be well used. A few bridgeheads and sections of the old trackbed survive to indicate the route.
