Somerset Township is a township in Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,277.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.0 km² (35.5 mi²). 86.4 km² (33.4 mi²) of it is land and 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.13% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,277 people, 1,687 households, and 1,312 families residing in the township. The population density is 49.5/km² (128.2/mi²). There are 2,161 housing units at an average density of 25.0/km² (64.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.90% White, 0.37% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,687 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.9% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% are non-families. 18.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.88.
