Socket A

Socket A (also known as Socket 462) is the CPU socket used for AMD flagship processors ranging from the Athlon K7 to the Athlon XP 3200+, and AMD budget processors including the Duron and Sempron. The socket is a zero insertion force pin grid array type with 462 pins.
Socket A is, as of Q4 2004, slowly being replaced by newer socket types such as Socket 754 used by Sempron and Athlon 64 processors, and Socket 939 used by Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors.
