Template:GBmap Silverstone is a medium sized village in Northamptonshire, England. It lies about half way between Northampton and Oxford. Population about 2,000.
About half a mile to the south of the village is the world famous Silverstone Circuit, traditionally the home of the British Grand Prix. The racing circuit is on the site of RAF Silverstone. For one week in the year it gets a bit hectic, but for the rest of the time it is a pleasant shire village with a healthy community spirit.
In the middle ages the village trade was primarily in timber from the surrounding Whittlewood forest. Linnell Bros. still operate a woodyard to this day. Fish ponds on the north side of the village fed the villagers.
The village is listed in the Domesday Book.
There are two schools, Silverstone County Infants' School, and Silverstone Church of England Junior School.
The Methodist Chapel is on Murswell Lane. St. Michael's Church (CofE) is on Stocks Hill, at the centre of the Village. The vicar is the Rev. Bridget Smith.
Also on Stock's Hill, are The White Horse PH and Croft's Stores, a friendly family run business which stocks everything bar the kitchen sink. (But they do have a sink plugs and u-bends).
