Ship Bottom is a borough located in Ocean County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,384.
Geography
Ship Bottom is located at 39°38'49" North, 74°10'53" West (39.647060, -74.181322)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 30.30% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,384 people, 664 households, and 395 families residing in the borough. The population density is 763.4/km² (1,991.1/mi²). There are 2,218 housing units at an average density of 1,223.4/km² (3,191.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.32% White, 0.29% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.08% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 5.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 664 households out of which 14.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.4% are non-families. 35.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.65.
In the borough the population is spread out with 14.8% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 26.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $42,098, and the median income for a family is $60,417. Males have a median income of $36,382 versus $28,958 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $27,870. 8.2% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
