Shinnecock Reservation is an Indian reservation located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the Indian reservation had a total population of 504.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the Indian reservation has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 504 people, 179 households, and 119 families residing in the Indian reservation. The population density is 148.5/km² (385.5/mi²). There are 194 housing units at an average density of 57.2/km² (148.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the Indian reservation is 3.97% White, 2.38% Black or African American, 91.07% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.39% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 4.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 179 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.8% are married couples living together, 20.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% are non-families. 32.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
