Shenton College
|
Shenton College is a Secondary School in Shenton Park, Perth, Western Australia which opened in January 2001. It caters for students from Year 8 to Year 12. It is the result of the amalgamation of the neighbouring high schools of Swanbourne and Hollywood. Its motto is "Excellence, Self, Community".
It is built on a 130,000 square metre site of historical and natural significance, bounded by Lemnos Street, Selby Street and Stubbs Terrace. It is directly across from the Shenton Park train station (of the Fremantle trainline).
Unlike the rigid, rectangular school designs of the past, Shenton College has been designed to represent a new era in government education in Western Australia. Its buildings are curved, of a light limestone with colourful but subtle interior walls. There are plants and trees dotted about everywhere and several courtyards and grassed areas within the main building areas. There are pieces of local art (a requirement of the College's construction) in various places around the school grounds. There are also two main ovals, one in front (near the Senior School) and one near the Middle School. In a joint enterprise with the University of Western Australia and other assorted agencies there is also a new artificial hockey turf near Gallipoli and Borneo houses.
