Story
In the Forbidden City of 1877, Chon Lin (Fann Wong) tries to defend her father from the terrorist attack by Lord Nelson Rathbone (Aidan Gillen), who murders her father. Lin sends a Lock puzzle to her brother, Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) where he is living as a sheriff in the wild west of the United States. He travels to New York to find Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), who has squandered their fortune. They manage to travel to London and promise to avenge Wang's father and find Lin. Several adventures later, the villains, Rathbone (who desires to be the King of the United Kingdom), and Wu Chow (Donnie Yen), the Boxer leader who desires to be the Emperor of China are attempting to assassinate Queen Victoria, but are dispatched by Wang, Roy, and Lin. In the meantime, Roy proves his bravery and his friendship to Chon.
The story ostensibly takes place during the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign (which would have occurred in 1887) and also references Arthur Conan Doyle leaving his post at Scotland Yard (Doyle never worked in law enforcement) to begin writing Sherlock Holmes novels (the first of which also happened to be released in 1887). However, there are also the anachronisms of an appearance by Jack the Ripper, who didn't begin murdering his victims until the following year, an automobile that was far more advanced than the rudiments of automobiles of the time and the story also featured a young thief, Charlie Chaplin, who wasn't even born until 1889 (the writers have claimed they knew about the anarchronisms but left them in as they made the story more fun).
