Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park is a large national park in Tanzania, Africa. It is famous for its annual migration of millions of blue (or brindled) wildebeest, or gnu.
The "big five" animals of the park, so named by hunters on safari decades ago, are lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, and Cape buffalo. The park is also home to hyenas, cheetahs, zebras, raptors, and many other species.
Close to the park lies Olduvai Gorge, where many of the oldest hominid fossils and artifacts have been found. It is located in the Ngorogoro Conservation Area which is part of the larger Serengeti ecosystem. The park has been listed by UNESCO as one of the World Heritage Sites. The administrative body for all parks in Tanzania is Tanzania National Parks, or TANAPA.
Myles Turner was one of the Park's first game wardens and is credited with establishing anti-poaching defenses. His autobiography, "My Serengeti Years," provides a detailed history of Serengeti National Park's early years.
