Selsdon Group
|
The Selsdon Group is a British free-market pressure group, closely associated with the Conservative Party. It was created in 1973 by Nicholas Ridley to uphold, and promote free market policies, following a brainstorming session with Sir Edward Heath and the shadow cabinet in 1969 at the Selsdon Park Hotel in Selsdon, in which these policies were formulated. The aims promulgated were however criticised by the Labour Prime Minister at the time, Harold Wilson, who coined the phrase Selsdon Man as a consequence.
Selsdon Group members believe that economic freedom is the indispensable condition for political and social freedom.
Its President is the Rt. Hon. John Redwood, MP.
