The self-heals are a genus of seven species of herbaceous plants in the family Lamiaceae. Most are native to Europe, Asia and North Africa, but the Common Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) is Holarctic in distribution, occurring in North America as well, and is a common lawn weed.
The common name derives from their use in herbal medicine, where they were believed to cure a range of minor disorders.
