Searsport is a town located in Waldo County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,641.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 111.2 km² (42.9 mi²). 74.1 km² (28.6 mi²) of it is land and 37.2 km² (14.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 33.42% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,641 people, 1,130 households, and 732 families residing in the town. The population density is 35.7/km² (92.4/mi²). There are 1,370 housing units at an average density of 18.5/km² (47.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.07% White, 0.27% Black or African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 0.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,130 households out of which 27.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.86.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.
