Schlenkerla

Schlenkerla is a historical brewery-tavern in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany. It is most renowned for its Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier ("authentic Schlenkerla smoked beer"), a wheat beer with a smoky aroma and flavour. The tavern features a Gothic ceiling known as the Dominikanerklause.
Schlenkerla roughly translates as "Dangling". Schlenker is a German verb meaning to swing or to dangle. The -la suffix is typical of the Franconian dialect. The name reportedly originated with a previous owner of the brewery who possessed an hobbling gait.
