Schertz is a city located in Guadalupe County in the State of Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,694. It is generally considered part of the larger San Antonio, Texas metropolitan area.

Schertz is located at 29°34'0" North, 98°15'52" West (29.566728, -98.264339)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 64.1 km² (24.7 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 18,694 people, 6,604 households, and 5,283 families residing in the city. The population density is 291.9/km² (755.9/mi²). There are 7,009 housing units at an average density of 109.4/km² (283.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.04% White, 6.57% African American, 0.48% Native American, 1.77% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 5.53% from other races, and 3.43% from two or more races. 19.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,604 households out of which 42.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.2% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.0% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.17.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $55,156, and the median income for a family is $59,745. Males have a median income of $38,655 versus $28,203 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,938. 5.2% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.0% of those under the age of 18 and 8.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
A large number of Schertz's population is connected with the military due to the presence nearby of Randolph Air Force Base which can result into some degree of population turnover due to the transient nature of military service.
Education
Public education in Schertz is provided through the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District (SCUCISD) which is composed of the neighboring towns of Schertz, Cibolo, Texas, and Universal City, Texas.
The area has undergone significant growth in recent years, necessitating the opening of a second high school in the district in 2005 called Byron P. Steele High School (in Cibolo) to supplant the already existing Samuel Clemens High School which is located in Schertz.
