Santan, Arizona

Santan is an unincorporated town located in Pinal County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 651.
Due to rapid construction of homes in the northern portion of Pinal County, residents have attempted to petition for incoporation of Santan in 2004. With their plan unveiled in April, an attempt to get approvial from a neighboring community of Florence failed later during the summer. The other communities of Queen Creek, Mesa, Gilbert have approved of the incorporation.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²). 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 651 people, 163 households, and 135 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 39.2/km² (101.3/mi²). There are 185 housing units at an average density of 11.1/km² (28.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 1.84% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 92.78% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.07% from other races, and 2.30% from two or more races. 12.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 163 households out of which 50.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.1% are married couples living together, 35.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.6% are non-families. 16.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.99 and the average family size is 4.30.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 42.2% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 14.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 79.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $16,645, and the median income for a family is $15,227. Males have a median income of $37,857 versus $7,386 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $7,090. 46.2% of the population and 46.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 77.5% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
