San Augustine is a town located in San Augustine County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,475. It is the county seat of San Augustine CountyTemplate:GR and is situated in East Texas.

Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,475 people, 859 households, and 573 families residing in the town. The population density is 202.9/km² (525.2/mi²). There are 1,076 housing units at an average density of 88.2/km² (228.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 37.82% White, 57.94% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.07% from other races, and 0.40% from two or more races. 5.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 859 households out of which 29.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.3% are married couples living together, 26.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.23.
