Template:GBdot Sale is a town situated in the UK, in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford and the ceremonial county of Greater Manchester. It is located to the south-west of Manchester itself, between Stretford and Altrincham. Historically the town was situated in Cheshire; however, this ceased to be the case following the local government reorganisation of 1974. Although it is worth noting that the Royal Mail continues to list the town as being part of Cheshire for address purposes. It has a population of about 60,000.
Home to the Sale Leisure Centre, Sale offers some of the finest aquatic sporting facilities in the North West.
The Sale Sharks rugby union team plays in the Zurich Premiership, but its home matches take place in Stockport.
James Joule was a notable resident of Sale and was educated at Sale Grammar School.
