Ségolène Royal (born September 22, 1953) is a French politician, and a prominent member of the Socialist Party.
She was born in Dakar, Sénégal.
She is a deputy for the Deux-Sèvres département, and served as Minister of Environment under Pierre Bérégovoy from 1992 to 1993.
Her former profession is judge (conseiller) of an administrative court.
Her partner is politician François Hollande (premier secrétaire of the Socialist Party), with whom she has several children.
On March 28th 2004, she was elected (with more than 55%) president of the region Poitou-Charentes.
She is considered as a possible candidate for presidency in 2007...
