Rush Township is a township located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 3,957.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 61.8 km² (23.9 mi²). 59.2 km² (22.9 mi²) of it is land and 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.27% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,957 people, 1,419 households, and 1,058 families residing in the township. The population density is 66.9/km² (173.2/mi²). There are 1,563 housing units at an average density of 26.4/km² (68.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 96.44% White, 2.35% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.43% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,419 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.3% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.90.
