Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash is a 1985 album by The Pogues, their second. The title for the album is a quote attributed to Winston Churchill ("Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy and the lash.")
The cover artwork is based on "The Raft of the Medusa", a painting by Théodore Géricault, with the band member's facing replacing those of the men on the raft. Shane McGowan claimed that the title was suggested by drummer Andrew Rankin.

Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash - A Devon Lad's Life in Nelson's Navy is a book by Anthony Blackmore. It is a fictionalised account of the true story of Samuel Blackmore, a lower deck sailor in Nelson's Navy from 1793 to 1802.
