The Royal Liver Building is the city of Liverpool's most recognisable landmark and one of its most loved. Since its completion in 1911 it has overlooked the River Mersey from its waterfront location and forms one of the "three graces" along with the Port of Liverpool Building, and the Cunard Building. The two winged creatures visible above the cupolas are known as Liver birds {pronounced with a long I }.
The Architect was W Aubrey Thomas, it is one of the earliest examples of multi-storey reinforced concrete construction in world. This is refelectd in the buildings Grade 1 Listed Building status.
