Roxbury Township is a township located in Morris County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 23,883.
Succasunna-Kenvil, New Jersey, located within the township, is considered as a separate town by the US Census Bureau for statistical purposes.
Interstate 80, United States Highway 46, United States Highway 206 and New Jersey State Highway 10 all pass through the township. Morristown & Erie Railway's Chester and High Bridge Branch freight lines run through the township on weekdays.
Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 56.7 km² (21.9 mi²). 55.3 km² (21.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.42% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,883 people, 8,364 households, and 6,532 families residing in the township. The population density is 431.5/km² (1,117.4/mi²). There are 8,550 housing units at an average density of 154.5/km² (400.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 92.57% White, 1.91% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 3.58% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 4.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,364 households out of which 39.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.8% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.25.
In the township the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.0 males.
