Roxburgh Park, Victoria
|
Roxburgh Park is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the City of Hume.
Planning and Development of Roxburgh Park
Much of what is now Roxburgh Park was formerly used as agricultural land, and Roxburgh Park was only developed by the Urban Land Corporation in 1992 (not unlike the new towns in green wedges of Britain). The commercial hub of the suburb is located on Somerton Road (highways 35 and 58). As of 2005 development has progressed (for example, through more child care centres and a retirement village and the Islamic mosque, as well as improvement of roads) and there will be an E14 line. Most of Roxburgh Park's fame came with widely screened TV commercials throughout the mid-1990s, presenting Roxburgh Park's avowed virtues as a planned community with a balance of residential, industrial and reserves (part of the Shanklands Reserve is in the south of Roxburgh Park), as well as community services and access to transport.
Education and Commerce in Roxburgh Park
In 2005 Roxburgh park has 3 primary schools (Roxburgh Park North Primary School [proposed], Roxburgh Homestead Primary School and Roxburgh Park Primary School) and a high school (Roxburgh Park Secondary College, with a sub-college for Year 7 and 8 students). Roxburgh Park also has a Catholic school - the Good Samatrian Catholic School. Two large shopping centres are located within the suburb. The one on Somerton Road is a general department store, whereas the Roxburgh Plaza and Homemaker Centre is on Pascal Vale Road, near Hungry Jacks and a proposed Roxburgh Park Hotel. Also there is the Roxburgh Homestead Shopping Centre, close to the Roxburgh Homestead Primary school.
