Character info

Rouge is 17 years of age according to the Sonic Heroes manual, but is officially 18. She has the same attacks as Knuckles, except she specializes in kicking. Rouge is a treasure huntress (female "equivalent" of treasure hunter) who is determined to make all the gems and treasures of the world hers-- and bases her tactics on prospective profit. Current jewel obsessions are the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds. She is also a government spy, and is dispatched on missions occasionally. In her spare time, she scours the earth for jewels, and other methods of striking it rich.

Love life

It's official that Rouge has a crush on Knuckles. She can see his strong determination towards his duties, which makes her feelings for him even stronger. He likes her as well, but they're both too stubborn to admit their feelings for each other. On the other hand she does act flirtatious towards Sonic as well. She also likes to tease Tails making him blush a lot, but her actions towards Knuckles are some what genuine. She flirts with the others just to be a tease, adding to her already mysterious nature. Rouge and Shadow the Hedgehog have a connection. This sprang about because of her care towards Shadow in Sonic Battle where she lets him live with her after lacking a place to stay. Most would look at a normal person and shrug this behavior off thinking of it as something chartiable and a part of her nature like many other people's.

Catch is: Rouge's nature usually isn't charitable. She is in fact very self-centered most of the time, which makes this instance quite peculiar. Although she is not normally charitable, Shadow did save her life when she was stuck inside security hall, (as well as everyone else's back upon A.R.K. by sacrificing himself) and this could may be the reason of this first charitable act. Though whether feelings that aroused this course of action are romantic or platonic is an opinionated conclusion. So it's safe to say that Rouge and Shadow have a sort of brother-sister relationship. In Sonic X, when she first established the business transactions on helping Eggman and Shadow find the Chaos Emeralds, she seemed oddly interested in Shadow, she also called him, "charming." However, she was interested in him only because it was her mission: to find out whether or not the claims of his being the "Ultimate Life Form" were true.

Perhaps a future Sonic Adventure sequel to the first two will tell us more of Rouge's feelings towards either Shadow or Knuckles. It still remains to be seen.

Game appearances

She has appeared in games including Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Battle, Sonic Heroes (where she leads Team Dark as their flight member) and in the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics.

Hopefully, a Sonic Adventure 3 will come up, starring Rouge the Bat again...

Personality

On the outside Rouge is an ambitious, vain, flirty, manipulative, calculating tell-it-like-it-is female who to most people would see as only caring for herself and her gems. However Sonic Battle would indicate that she can be fairly caring and sympathetic to her friends/comrades (ex: aiding Shadow by letting him live with her and her almost motherly behavior towards Emerl), and in Sonic Heroes, she is a leaderlike figure who manages to end quarrel.

Overall, she would do something if the world were in trouble (ex: stopping an attack by Dr. Eggman), which is why she is not always considered a "bad guy." Only problem is, her appearance and overall demeanor often contradicts that fact.

Other information

In the games, she is voiced by Lani Minella. In the Sonic X anime, she is voiced by Kathleen Delaney.
