Ross Township is a census-designated place and township located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 32,551.
Geography
Ross Township is located at 40°31'35" North, 80°1'18" West (40.526418, -80.021823)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 37.4 km² (14.4 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 32,551 people, 13,892 households, and 8,807 families residing in the township. The population density is 871.0/km² (2,255.3/mi²). There are 14,422 housing units at an average density of 385.9/km² (999.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.93% White, 1.42% Black or African American, 0.08% Native American, 1.80% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 13,892 households out of which 24.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% are non-families. 31.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the township the population is spread out with 19.4% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
