Rosebud is a census-designated place located in Todd County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,557.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²). 33.9 km² (13.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water.

Rosebud has been assigned the ZIP code 57570.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,557 people, 405 households, and 315 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 46.0/km² (119.1/mi²). There are 465 housing units at an average density of 13.7/km² (35.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 4.17% White, 0.06% African American, 93.38% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 2.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 405 households out of which 52.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.6% are married couples living together, 36.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.79 and the average family size is 4.21.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 45.9% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 13.0% from 45 to 64, and 3.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 20 years. For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $19,906, and the median income for a family is $19,866. Males have a median income of $17,188 versus $23,886 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $8,462. 43.6% of the population and 40.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 46.8% of those under the age of 18 and 11.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
