Room at the Top

Room at the Top is a 1959 film which tells the story of a young man in a dreary English factory town who thinks that he might be able to move up the ladder if he marries the boss's daughter. It stars Simone Signoret, Laurence Harvey, Heather Sears, Donald Wolfit, Donald Houston and Hermione Baddeley.
The movie was adapted by Neil Paterson and Mordecai Richler (uncredited) from the novel by John Braine. It was directed by Jack Clayton.
It won Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Simone Signoret) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, (Laurence Harvey), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hermione Baddeley), Best Director and Best Picture.
Room at the Top was followed by a sequel in 1965 called Life at the Top.
