Ron Francis (b. March 1, 1963, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) is a professional Ice Hockey center in the NHL, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ron is affectionately known as "Ronnie Franchise" from his Hartford Whalers days.
Francis played part of the 2003-04 NHL season for the Leafs, and has also played for the Hartford Whalers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and for the Whaler's successor Carolina Hurricanes. His trade from the Whalers to the Penguins was considering a coup for the Penguins and he centred a formidable second line behind Mario Lemieux's first line. He has won 2 Stanley Cups, in 1991 and in 1992 for Pittsburgh. He was drafted by Hartford in 1981. His best season was 1995-96 when he had 119 points. That season, he led the league in assists with 92. The previous season, he also led the league in assists with 48. Francis later captained the Carolina Hurricanes and led them to the 2002 Stanley Cup final where they lost to Detroit.
