Robert "Robin" Hayes (born 14 August 1945) is a Republican Congressman from North Carolina. He has represented the state's 8th Congressional district (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/nc08_109.gif)) in the House of Representatives since 1999. The district stretches from Charlotte to Fayetteville
Hayes owns a hosiery mill in his hometown of Concord. He was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1992 and served two terms. He was the Republican nominee for governor in 1996, losing heavily to Democratic incumbent Jim Hunt. Two years later, 8th District Congressman Bill Hefner retired after 24 years in Congress. Hayes won the Republican nomination to succeed him and won a narrow victory. He has been reelected every two years since then, despite the district's Democratic lean. The Democratic-controlled state legislature tried to draw Hayes out of office by adding part of Charlotte to the district, but Hayes has been reelected the past two years.
