Robert William Thomson (1822-1873) was a Scottish inventor.
Born in Stonehaven, Thomson patented among other things the vulcanised rubber double tube tyre in 1845, and the fountain pen in 1849. He also developed the technique of firing explosive charges using electricity.
He died at his home in Moray Place, Edinburgh aged 50.
