Rising Sun is a city located in Ohio County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,470. The city is the county seat of Ohio CountyTemplate:GR.
It has the only exit on Interstate 275's brief entry into Indiana.
Geography
Rising Sun is located at 38°56'60" North, 84°51'24" West (38.949867, -84.856782)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²). 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.29% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,470 people, 1,034 households, and 645 families residing in the city. The population density is 644.4/km² (1,664.4/mi²). There are 1,119 housing units at an average density of 291.9/km² (754.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.02% White, 0.97% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,034 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% are non-families. 32.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
