Miscellaneous
The town is a target of a meme occasionally heard on Rush Limbaugh's talk radio program; the joke stereotypes the city's residents as unintelligent and simplistic. More specifically, Limbaugh will sometimes, when using a relatively complicated word or phrase, follow that with "for those of you in Rio Linda ...," followed by the use of a more rudimentary synonym for the original word or phrase. Limbaugh hosted a local radio talk show in nearby Sacramento from 1984 to 1988. Since the disputed presidential election of 2000, Limbaugh has added West Palm Beach, Florida to this meme, saying, "for those of you in Rio Linda and West Palm Beach ...", a reference to the controversy over the butterfly ballot.
