Richard Allan

Richard Allan (11 February 1966) was the British Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam from the general election of Thursday the 2nd of May 1997 until the dissolution of Parliament on the 11th of April 2005.
In 1997 he unseated Irvine Patnick of the Conservative Party with a majority of 8221 (a swing of 3.1%). In 2001 he was re-elected with an increased majority of 9347. During his tenure Mr Allan held various committee seats, including the Chair of the House of Commons Information Select Committee and a seat on the House of Commons Liaison Select Committee.
He is a member of the Liberal Democrats. Allan did not seek reelection at the 2005 general election.
Mr Allan was succeeded by Sheffield Hallam's Liberal Democrat candidate: Nick Clegg (majority 8682), for whom he acted as campaign manager.
