Rembert is a census-designated place located in Sumter County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 406.

Geography

Rembert is located at 34°6'2" North, 80°31'51" West (34.100532, -80.530842)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 406 people, 144 households, and 101 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 35.5/km² (92.1/mi²). There are 163 housing units at an average density of 14.3/km² (37.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 24.14% White, 75.62% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 144 households out of which 32.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.5% are married couples living together, 25.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.42.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 82.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $18,958, and the median income for a family is $25,417. Males have a median income of $19,911 versus $16,875 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $9,528. 30.8% of the population and 26.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 44.2% of those under the age of 18 and 51.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
