Reliance Infocomm is one of the biggest telecommunications service provider in India and it belongs to the biggest business group called Reliance Industries Limited. The group is held by the Ambani family, the richest family in India.
Reliance Infocomm started commercial operations from May 1, 2003. This unlisted company (about 45% directly held by Reliance Industries Limited) operates in all segments of the Infocomm value chain - voice, data and video-on-demand services. It owns an 80,000 KM optic fiber network spread in 20 telecom circles of India.
Reliance was the first company to introduce cdma services in India and it is India's first cdma service provider.the reliance was the first to introduce cdma handsets in the indian market as majoar or all of the cdma handsets sold in india is behalf of reliance infocomm.the company provides various services through its cdma facility.r connect services(internet services) was possible only because of cdma technology.this company was the first to distribute 3rd generation mobiles in india.and thereby the company made history as the first to introduce cdma in india.
For it's most popular and wellknown mobile services,it uses Qualcomm's CDMA technology (CDMA 2000 1X standard). At the end of April 2005, it had over 10 million mobile and fixed wireless subscribers.
The company also offers data enabled multimedia services to it's mobile subscribers, using it's R-World platform. Till March 31, 2005, the R-world services were offered free of cost, since when they have become paid.
The company reported a turnover about Rs. 5300 crores for the financial year April 2004 - March 2005. The net profit was Rs. 51 crores.Template:Wikify
