Rayne is a city located in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,552.

Geography
Rayne is located at 30°14'15" North, 92°16'5" West (30.237379, -92.268175)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 8.9 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.29% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,552 people, 3,183 households, and 2,228 families residing in the city. The population density is 957.1/km² (2,476.1/mi²). There are 3,480 housing units at an average density of 389.5/km² (1,007.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.55% White, 33.52% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,183 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 20.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.22.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 85.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $22,369, and the median income for a family is $27,991. Males have a median income of $27,140 versus $14,980 for females. Events
Rayne holds a yearly Frog Festival on Labor Day weekend which attracts thousands of visitors.
