Raisin River (Ontario)
|
The Raisin River is a river in eastern Ontario that empties into Lake Saint Francis on the Saint Lawrence River near Lancaster, Ontario.
It flows through the historic town of Williamstown, Ontario, the site of the "Great Raisin Raisin River Foot Race". In spring, the "Raisin River Canoe Race" runs from Saint Andrews, Ontario to Williamstown.
The river's name comes from the French word "raisin" (grape) which referred to the wild grapes, probably Vitis riparia, found along the river.
