Queensland Reds
|
The Queensland Reds are one of three Super 12 rugby union teams based in Australia. They represent the state of Queensland. The Reds, despite finishing minor premiers in 1996 and 1999, have never reached the Super 12 final, having been defeated three times at the semi-final stage. The Reds play home matches at Ballymore, except for the game against New South Wales which is staged at Suncorp Stadium, home of the Wally Lewis Monument.
The Reds are currently quite a young team, with recent run-on teams consisting of nine players (of fifteen) being 22 years old or younger. Their current captain is Nathan Sharpe.
Traditionally, several players from the Reds make the Wallabies team each year.
