Putney is a census-designated place located in Dougherty County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,998.

Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,998 people, 1,138 households, and 899 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 53.9/km² (139.6/mi²). There are 1,223 housing units at an average density of 22.0/km² (56.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 68.81% White, 29.52% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 1.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,138 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 14.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% are non-families. 17.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 2.96.
