Pusey House, Oxford

Pusey House (pronounced 'Pewsey') was opened in 1884 in part as a memorial to Dr. Edward Pusey, professor of Hebrew at Oxford University, canon of Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford and for forty years the figure head of the Oxford Movement, a movement of the nineteenth century which sought to bring the Church of England closer to the Roman Catholic church. It was also intended to continue the work of Dr. Pusey in "restoring the Church of England's Catholic life and witness".
The house contains Dr. Pusey's library, and the staff of the house are called 'Librarians'. Services in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England are held there. The house is a place of study and a pastoral centre, catering mainly to adherents of the catholic wing of the Church of England.
