Puako is located at 19°55'55" North, 155°51'53" West (19.932025, -155.864837)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 41.1 km² (15.9 mi²). 26.7 km² (10.3 mi²) of it is land and 14.3 km² (5.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 34.95% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 429 people, 215 households, and 118 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 16.1/km² (41.6/mi²). There are 702 housing units at an average density of 26.3/km² (68.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 71.56% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 11.42% Asian, 4.43% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 12.59% from two or more races. 3.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 215 households out of which 14.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.3% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.1% are non-families. 31.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.00 and the average family size is 2.43.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 11.7% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 41.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 109.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 111.7 males.
