Prudence Halliwell

Prudence Halliwell, also known as Prue, appears in series' 1, 2 and 3 of the television series Charmed, and was played by Shannen Doherty.

Prior to her untimely death, she possessed the powers of telekinesis and astral projection.

Prue's story

Prudence Halliwell was born on October 28, 1970 to the good witch Patty Halliwell and human Victor Bennett, their first child. She soon gained a little sister named Piper. As a witch, Prue developed the magical power of telekinesis to move things with her mind.

On March 24, 1975 she was visited by a future version of herself. Also on that day, Patty signed a pact with the warlock Nicholas to make him a ring that made him immune to her daughters' powers.

After Prue's second little sister Phoebe was born in November 1975, their grandmother Penny bound their powers to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers. The memory of having had powers eventually faded from the girls' minds.

After high school Piper and Prue then moved into an apartment together in Northbeach where they stayed until Penny became ill and they moved back in with her. Prue became engaged to a man named Roger and she asked Piper to be her maid of honor. Roger kept coming on to Phoebe secretly, then claiming Phoebe was after him. About this time Penny took a picture of the three of them together in front of the manor. Penny planned to use a potion to bind the girls powers forever, but she died before she could do it.

Prudence comes into her power with a mixture of shock and anger at her sister Phoebe, who she blames for her introduction to the Craft. Her telekinesis was originally focused by squinting her eyes; later, she learned to channel the ability with her hands. Her second power is Astral Projection, the ability to extract her mind from her body in a tangible state on the physical plane.

Prudence, being the eldest sister, sees herself as the mother-figure for the household; she is conservative, cautious and dislikes surprises, and it is often left to the middle sister Piper to arbitrate between Prue and Phoebe, whom Prue regards as immature, irresponsible and unpredictable.

Prue's childhood sweetheart, Andy Trudeau, is now a detective. See here for more about Andy and Prudence.

During this series, Prue works at Buckland's Auction House, which is infiltrated by powerful warlocks who are plotting the demise of the Charmed line, later she becomes a photographer for 419 magazine.

When Phoebe started to get hot flashes linked to visions of men being killed, the sisters learned that a Succubus was hunting in San Francisco. They cast a spell to attract the Succubus which turned Prue into a man. They were able to lure the Succubus to her doom.

Prue was kidnapped by the former gangster, Bane Jessup, to help him fend off against the Ardo Malorum. Prue had found herself romantically attracted to him, as did he in her.

The warlock Zile had kidnapped Prue and was married to her by the dark priestess, Dantalian. Prue had became evil and turned on her sisters. When Zile was vanquished by the Charmed Ones, the evil hold on her was released.

While preparing for the wedding of Leo and Piper, Prue started having reoccurring dreams of a dangerous man in a bar named T.J. she was visiting. Without knowing it her astral form was being used by her repressed emotions to get away from her responsibilities. After a murder outside the bar was blamed on Prue the police started to look for her.

At Piper and Leo's wedding (attended by the sisters' father Victor, Phoebe's half-demon boyfriend Cole Turner, and Inspector Darryl Morris and Patty Halliwell) the police came after Prue and T.J. crashed the wedding on a motorcycle. Phoebe talked Prue into getting herself together and Darryl, Leo and Cole found the real killer. Leo and Piper were married by the ghost of Penny in a special ceremony.

When the sisters discovered a Banshee demon was killing people who were grieving, they cast a spell to track the Banshee which turned Prue into a dog. Phoebe was infected by the call of the Banshee, being turned into one herself, but they saved her.

Prudence is killed by a demon, Shax, whilst defending an innocent.

She is replaced by Paige, the 4th sister of the Charmed Ones. Paige was born out of wedlock. Patty had an affair with a whitelighter, causing Paige to be born.
