Pork pie
|
Pork pie is a traditional British food. It consists of pork and pork jelly in a hot water crust pastry and is normally eaten cold.
A gala pie is a pork pie with a hard-boiled egg inside.
The term "Melton Mowbray" is sometimes used as a synonym for pork pie, however, the town has applied for protection under European "Protected designation of origin" laws. This would prevent the term from being applied to pork pies made outside the town of Melton Mowbray.
