Pope Leo V
|
|
Leo V, a native of Ardea, was pope for some thirty days in 903 after the death of Benedict IV. He was succeeded by Christopher. Elected while a priest. Leo's pontificate occurred in the darkest period of papal history. He was deposed and murdered, presumably strangled by Pope Christopher, who was in turn executed by Pope Sergius III in 904.
