Ponemah CDP is a census-designated place (CDP) within the Lower Red Lake unorganized teritory located in Beltrami County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 874.
The United States Census Bureau uses the CDP designation as a reporting mechanism to provide area and population values for a more densely settled community within the much larger, and less populated territory. According to the U.S. Census, the CDP has a total area of 50.8 km² (19.6 mi²). 50.8 km² (19.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 874 people, 209 households, and 174 families residing in the community. The population density is 17.2/km² (44.6/mi²). There are 215 housing units at an average density of 4.2/km² (11.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 0.34% White, 99.20% Native American, 0.23% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 1.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 209 households out of which 51.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 21.1% are married couples living together, 44.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% are non-families. 13.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.18 and the average family size is 4.37.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 49.5% under the age of 18, 13.3% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 11.6% from 45 to 64, and 2.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 18 years. For every 100 females there are 105.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.0 males.
The median income for a household is $13,571, and the median income for a family is $13,527. Males have a median income of $21,250 versus $16,719 for females.
