Planet Shakers
|
Planet Shakers is a Christian youth movement in Australia, based on a Contemporary Christian music band.
Originally founded by Russell Evans at the Paradise Community Church in Adelaide, the conference began with 300 delegates in 1997 and has grown to reach 20,000 across three states in 2004.
Planet Shakers hold annual conferences in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and in 2005, Melbourne. They strive to create passion and devotion in young people for following Jesus. Leading speakers and preachers from around the world enhance the conference experience.
The Planet Shakers band is central to their events, bearing a worship-woven heavy rock sound attractive to many youth. Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian was also a part of the Planet Shakers band for several years, taking both lead and backup vocal parts on the 2002 and 2003 albums and conferences.
The band and ministry moved to Melbourne in 2004 to begin Melbourne City Church.
The church also run their Urban Life groups in various parts of Melbourne in houses of designated Urban Life leaders every fortnightly.
